Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC), a locally owned electric distribution utility based in Johnson, Vermont, is seeking a Substation Technician to join its Operations Team. This individual plays an important role in the organization as they are responsible for maintaining the operations of 35 substations throughout Northern Vermont and ensuring a safe and reliable electric grid.

The individual in this role will apply their electrical experience to install, maintain, test, and repair all types of metering, electrical, and substation equipment. They are responsible for safely troubleshooting and mitigating potential system problems. They should support VEC s short and long-term goals for reliability and efficiency. Since most work is done with others, the individual in this position should enjoy collaboration and demonstrate integrity to their team. They should also be self-motivated and capable of independent thinking. The ability to work extended hours in varying weather conditions and be a part of an on-call rotation is required. In order to provide excellent service to our members, individuals must have a permanent residence (or obtain a permanent residence) that is within 45 minutes from one of VEC s four district locations (Johnson, Grand Isle, Newport, and Richford).

Qualified candidates should possess an Associate s Degree in Electrical Technology or related field and 2 to 4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and have a sound foundation of electrical principals. Journeymen s Electrical License preferred. Candidates should possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver s License or a willingness to obtain one as a requirement of the position.
